SEARCH FOR ISIS KILLER ON VIDEO USING VOICE ID
Recently, the FBI released a portion of the latest ISIS propaganda video, asking the public for assistance in identifying the
voice of the hooded man seen in the video. The question is "Has ISIS changed his voice?" As a forensic audio expert with
40 years experience, I have been involved in a number of cases where criminal defendants attempted to disguise their voices,
ranging from international drug traffickers to a judge involved in an affair. In each case I was able to correct the recording
to restore the voice recordings to their original state.
And so, in this case we know that ISIS employs sophisticated video techniques including titles, music, two-cameras, echoes,
and post-production effects in their videos. They may very well have altered the voice of the speaker using widely available
speech processing software , in which case we are looking for the wrong voice.
Below are three files: the original file posted by the FBI, a file in which I have pitch corrected to one possible voice tone, and
a third, further correcting. If you recognize either of these two voices, contact your local FBI office.
Perhaps we should post variations on the voice to counteract any voice changing that has been employed.
